Mononeko: ANIMATION

Here's where things move! I was the lead animator for this project. Down below are ANIMATIONS & TURNAROUNDS I made fully by myself. If I worked with others, I was lead keyframer. I did the movement design, roughs, & keyframes; and provided the in-betweeners with timing charts & visual references.

ANY pre- production.

Animations on a tight deadline disrupted the team's ability to follow the traditional animation pipeline. This affected me most when passing keyframes down to others. However, it was still my goal to preserve final quality. Videos are attached below which detail my process, problems encountered, & how I solved them.

Menreiki Sprite: ATK #1

This attack was a play in perspective! This is seen most in how Menreiki thrusts her attack, and spins around to throw a punch. I also let the handle bar get pulled back & forth a bit in the PREP animation.

Menreiki Sprite: ATK #3

In ATK 3, Menreiki floats towards the ground, turns, and opens the mask behind her head for some eyeballs to roll out.

Sumo Baby Sprite: ATK 1 (1st Half)

Only the first half of ATK 2's animations were done fully by me, due to time constraints, I needed to move on to animating the next character.


In the COLLAB ANIM section, you can see the final parts of the 2nd half, as well as my keyframe division.

Tam Protagonist Sprite

Later in production, the Studio Director wanted to add a more responsive design to a character who showed which button was being inputted. They later become the protagonist who is Tam.


You can see some snippets of TAM's conceptual development in MONONEKO: CONCEPT ART.

Odokuro Sprite (Unused)

ODOKURO, or the Hub Skull! He was meant to play different roles in a "Hub" downtime menu, but the Studio Director had decided against adding a customizable menu in the game - hence his removal.

VFX: In-Game Balloons

Some balloons that you can hit with your projectiles in-game. I can animate things exploding. Ending this section with a bang! 💥

Teamwork, baby! For collaborative animations, I was the lead keyframer.


The usual animation pipeline follows that the roughs artist completes fully animated roughs for the clean-up artist to follow, but time constraints got in the way.


To speeden the process of in the in-between artist, I created on-model cleaned-up key frames for them to follow, so that they could just duplicate this below the actual clean-up as reference for their own rough in-betweens. This was also so that there was less of back & forth between files, & an accurate reference for when the style was being learned.


The work below includes finished animations, the parts which I keyframed, the timing charts & other resources I provided to help the in-between artist.


The main in-between artist I worked with was Angela Prudenciado.
